How to do a Mermaid Cake Smash, Raleigh

The sweetest baby girl came in for her 1 year Cake Smash and we did a Mermaid theme Cake Smash. OH. EM. GEE. It is adorable!

I wanted to share with you all how easy and fun and maybe a little time consuming it is to do this look! I’m sure you could find a couple of the items I made on Amazon for cheap with less work. It has fun props you can do for a birthday party or a background for a Cake Smash and I now have a great set up for future cake smashes.

The Backdrop –

1. Lavender streamers twisted and taped at the top and bottom.
2. Dot Banners – I used a one inch hole punch (from Hobby Lobby) and made 8 banners by sewing a straight line down through the dots.
3. Two fun seahorses from Hobby Lobby plus a green fern type bush from Hobby Lobby. I had cut it off and taped a few pieces and scattered the others.
4. A big bag of bigger shells from Hobby Lobby (again because I love Hobby Lobby!)
5. Brown sugar for sand.
6. Starfish from Amazon.
7. A beautiful 6 inch, 3 layer cake.I got mine from Flowers & Flour in Raleigh, NC. She’s amazing!
8. A sweet little Mermaid outfit or even a bathing suit. There’s fun options out there!
9. Some fishing type burlap netting I found in Myrtle Beach for $7 at an antique store! I have no idea what it’s called.
10. Finally some mini tissue poms because mamas always love some pretty poms.
11. And last but not least – mini clear balloons to make bubbles! I just taped them up. So easy.

Here are some quick links to the above. (I’m not an affiliate). 🙂

Check out one of my other fun blogs like this beautiful Milk Bath how to also. There’s so much you can do!

I hope you enjoy – it was so much fun to put together!
