What To Wear for a Newborn Session | Newborn Photographer | Morrisville, NC

Choosing what to wear for your Newborn Session doesn’t have to be hard.  I wanted to share with you some 6 simple tips on what to wear for your Newborn Session.  I know for me one of the most stressful parts of any photo shoot is “WHAT DO I WEAR?”  So, let’s just take the stress out of it.  🙂 Check out the examples below!

  1.  Think simple!  For my newborn sessions, I aim for a classic, beautiful, simple look that you will love the rest of your lives.  You aren’t going to look back in ten years and say “Why did I wear that?!”
  2. Think same tones.  I tell my clients that I will base their backdrop off of what light tones or dark tones they choose.  For example, if you choose charcoal & black then I’m going to use a Declan Newborn HIGH Res 370A1060-Edit medium to dark gray backdrop.  If you chose to wear creams and whites then I will choose an ivory or a light grayish/white backdrop.  Check out the samples below to see what I mean!
  3. Think soft cotton and knits.  Tank tops, v-neck t-shirts (tighter fitting not baggy), slim sweaters, or softer shirts with not a lot of distraction are all wonderful options.  You want to bring the focus on the baby and you and simple staples that are already in your closet are best.  You can also choose a simple dress (like one I have in my studio).  Also don’t forget to iron your clothes.  Wrinkles do show up!
  4. Nix the patterns.  Unless you are really great at choosing simple patterns, stay away from patterns.  Again, we want to focus on you, your family, and baby.  You can even opt to do skin to skin.  I can wrap Mom’s chest in soft material and Dad can go shirtless.  It’s a beautiful, soft, organic look.
  5. Choose for Mama first and choose before baby comes.  There is so much transition after baby comes that nobody wants to spend time after the baby comes looking for something to fit.   And choose what you are comfortable in and then build onto the rest of the family!
  6. Hands…one last thing don’t forget your hands and your significant other’s hands are in the images.  I love to show how tiny baby is in comparison to your hands.  A soft color or clear polish is lovely.

I hope all of that helps and I can’t wait to capture you in the studio!

Tonya
