One of my favorite childhood Disney movies is Peter Pan!  Peter Pan is such a sweet story and I feel it is filled with creativity and fires up the imagination.  So when my client asked me to do a Peter Pan cake smash, I was so excited!  I’ve done one before with a classic white backdrop and a night sky but this time I decided to focus on a forest theme.  I wanted to share with everyone how to do a Peter Pan cake smash so you could use the fun details for your own cake smashes or as decorations for your parties at home!

How to do a Peter Pan cake smash…

I wanted to share with you all how easy and fun and maybe a little time consuming it is to do this look! I used Amazon, a wonderful friend let me borrow some props, and I used some items I already had. It has fun props you can do for a birthday party or a background for a Cake Smash and I now have a great set up for future cake smashes.

  • My foundation was the Amazon tapestry backdrop. Once in awhile I can find an amazing tapestry on Amazon and it helps create a backdrop that can be so beautiful.  In order for it to be realistic, you have to add props in the front and capture the baby at least 4-6 feet away from it.
  • Some wooden crates – easy enough from any home or craft store.
  • A tent – I used three dowel sticks tied at the top from Home Depot and just wrapped some fabric around it.  Easy peasy!
  • I purchased a pillow cover that said Peter Pan on it from Amazon.
  • I found a little pirate map on Amazon.  Next time, I plan on getting a little brass telescope.
  • My photographer friend let me borrow some amazing props including a bottle with a map, a twin bell alarm clock from Amazon, a beautiful Croc stuffed animal (which I’ve now found on Amazon), some old Peter Pan books (an antique store), a little wood pirate dagger from Etsy, and a little bottle from Hobby Lobby that looks like it’s filled with pixie dust!
  • She also let me borrow this gorgeous globe from Etsy that had a beautiful quote from Peter Pan on it. “To live will be an awfully big adventure.”  It is beautiful!
  • I used lots of fake ferns and greenery.  I also used sweet, little twinkle lights to make it look like the fairies were in the back.
  • The perfect way to tie it off was the 6×8 artificial grass roll that I bought.  It was softer than I thought it would be and really finished the look.
  • I also made this darling Peter Pan hat from a template that I found for free online.  Check it out here.
  • The last item I used was a Tinkerbell decal that I purchased from Amazon.  It was perfect!

This Peter Pan cake smash was so much easier than I thought it would be to put together.  You can do the same fun theme for your party or photo session.  Just dial into your imagination and watch the movie for fun items to include.

To live life will be an awfully big adventure…

Do you have a favorite quote?  I’d love to hear it!  Check out one of my other fun blogs like this beautiful Milk Bath how to also. There’s so much you can do!

I hope you enjoy – it was so much fun to put together!
