5 Simple Tips for Maternity Posing

5 Simple Tips for Maternity Posing –

I want all of my clients to feel beautiful while I capture their images.  I use very simple posing and try to follow my client’ cues that they are giving me.  Some women may want to feel a bit more “model” like but I find most clients just want to snuggle their bumps while feeling beautiful. I want to share 5 Simple Tips for Maternity Posing that I use to help them feel comfortable and confident while capturing their beautiful baby bumps!

5 Simple Tips for Maternity Posing

  1. Legs – I ask clients to pick up one heel and bring the feet and knees together. I bend the knee of the same leg that the heel is lifted. They bend the leg closest to me or to the left.  This position helps bring a beautiful, flattering shape to their bodies and highlights the belly.  As they lift the heel, they need to push the other hip to the opposite direction.
  2. 45-90 degrees profile – I love to capture them from the side.  While they are turned to the side, I use the arm closest to me to come around their belly with the hand just under the belly button.  The top hand can be across the top of the belly. Notice that you can change up the arm closest to you when they are turned away.  They can make a triangle with their elbow by bringing their hand back on the hip.  It creates a nice waistline. They can also let the arm hang down the side.
  3. Head Positions – I have my clients look at the camera, look over their shoulders away from me, and look down towards baby.   Be careful of how they look at their bellies.  If they aren’t careful then the chin can make a double chin that isn’t there. Pregnant women look so beautiful looking down the side of their chest instead of just looking down the middle of their bodies.
  4. Straight on to the camera – Another position I love to utilize is straight on to the camera.  They can take both hands just under the belly button embracing their baby or they can take one hand across the top and one hand under the belly button.
  5. Variations – I try to capture several different variations including a horizontal, vertical, zoomed in on half the body (cut off at the hips) and one of just the belly of each pose.  The different crops make a beautiful variety for the client to choose from.

Remember to have fun and relax!  If you are a photographer reading this blog, your client is going to pick up on your energy.  If you are relaxed then they will be relaxed.
